Brian’s Corner

Brian Streett (Baltimore, 1946) was delivered by a doctor who was the national head of the Planned Parenthood Association and has been interested in paradoxes ever since. He has lived in Jerusalem since 1967, where he studied Zen with Kyudo Nakagawa in the 70s and 80s, though he still considers himself a beginner. He has three sons and one daughter (who is deceased). The sons have each given him three grandchildren, and he has two more via his wife’s children. A Reiki practitioner for 25 years and teacher for 20, he is now discovering the joys of retirement.

Eyal Streett (Jerusalem, 1978) has been cooking ever since he can remember. He started as an assistant in the home kitchen, adding butter to pancakes, he then tried making some birthday cakes (disaster). He continued as a cook in cafes and bars in his native Jerusalem. Later on he learned the art of student cooking in The Hague, the Netherlands, before moving to Spain. He travels often and is influenced by most kitchens around the world. He studied historical bassoon with Donna Agrell at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (BA), and with Alberto Grazzi at the Scuola Civica di Milano (MA). He plays regularly with Freiburger Barokorchester, Les Talens Lyriques and Rubato Appassionato. He enjoys eating food, especially hummus. This is his first attempt in sharing his recipes with other people.

Tania’s Corner

Tania Shybko (Minsk, Belarus, 1987) is a humanitarian aid worker, a photographer and a passionate traveller. She holds a degree in International relations and Oriental studies as well as a Masters in International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Development Policies. She studied in China and France and worked with NGOs on various continents, namely in such countries as Haiti, Lebanon, Central African Republic and Cameroon. Foreign languages and photography are among her main passions. She has been studying various foreign languages since she was a kid, and as for photography, Tania participated in several photo exhibitions in Belarus and abroad and organised a personal photo-exhibition “FantAsias”. Together with her friend Pierre-Emmanuel, she created the No Boundaries Blog where they publish articles on their travels and work.

E. Randol Schoenberg (Los Angeles, 1966) is an attorney, philanthropist, law professor, museum chair and dad. He graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics in 1988 and a certificate in EuropeanCultural Studies. In 1991 he received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California. Randol is of-counsel and was the co-founding partner of Burris, Schoenberg & Walden, LLP, where he handled a number of complex business litigation matters, specializing in cases involving looted art and the recovery of property stolen by the Nazi authorities during the Holocaust. Mr. Schoenberg has tried and argued cases before the United States Supreme Court, Second and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, United States District Court, California Court of Appeal and the Los Angeles Superior Court. During the past decade, he has litigated several prominent cases, including Austria versus Altmann case. In the Altmann case, he sought return of six famous Klimt paintings to his client. After persuading the United States Supreme Court that Maria Altmann could sue Austria for return of the paintings, he agreed to arbitrate the dispute in Austria. In January 2006 the arbitration panel decided that the paintings, valued at over $325 million, should be returned to Mrs. Altmann. In 2007, Randol received the California Lawyer Attorney of the Year award for outstanding achievement in the field of litigation. He also received the 2006 Jurisprudence Award from the Anti-Defamation League and the Justice Louis D. Brandeis Award from the American Jewish Congress. Randol is the grandson of Austrian composers Arnold Schoenberg and Eric Zeisl. Actor Ryan Reynolds portrays Randol in the film Woman in Gold (2015).

Jennifer’s Corner

Jennifer Prestholdt (1967, Minneapolis) is the Deputy Director of The Advocates for Human Rights and the Director of International Justice. Ms. Prestholdt has a B.A. in political science from Yale and a M.A.L.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, where she studied international human rights law and international refugee policy. She graduated cum laudefrom the University of Minnesota Law School in 1996. Ms. Prestholdt has worked on refugee and asylum issues for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, Switzerland. She has also interned for the Reebok Human Rights Program and the United Nations Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination Against and Protection of Minorities. Prior to becoming Deputy Director of The Advocates for Human Rights, Ms. Prestholdt practiced asylum law for five years as the Director of the Refugee and Immigrant Program. As The Advocates’ Deputy Director, she assists in fundraising for and directing organizational operations. Ms. Prestholdt also supervises the development and administration of International Justice programming. Ms. Prestholdt has also taught International Human Rights Law as an adjunct faculty member at the University of St. Thomas School of Law.

Pierre-Emmanuel’s Corner

Pierre-Emmanuel Moingt (Tours, France, 1990) is a Humanitarian aid worker. He first studied Business and Administration. While working as a volunteer in Cambodia, he realized how much he loved travelling and started being very interested in the field of Humanitarian Aid. He then joined IFAID Institute in order to pass a Master and become a Humanitarian Projects Coordinator. Since he graduated, he has worked with different NGOs in Cambodia, Jordan, South-Sudan, Central African Republic and Democratic Republic of Congo. He reads a lot, explores film photography and documentary filmmaking. Together with his friend Tania, he created the No Boundaries Blog where they publish articles on their travels and work.

El rincón de Cristina

Cristina Martínez Chueca (Madrid, 1976), educadora social, maestra y escritora, se vio desde su infancia fascinada por la posibilidad de expresión de las emociones a través de la escritura. Su primer poema se publicó en un periódico colombiano cuando tenía tan sólo 12 años. Siempre llevó en paralelo su actividad como escritora junto a su otra fascinación, la enseñanza. Durante unos años de su vida, sus emociones se transformaron en bellas y desgarradoras canciones que atrapaban a la audiencia con su guitarra, su voz, y unas sinceras letras que eran verdaderos poemas cantados. En el 2008 fue diagnosticada de esclerosis múltiple progresiva, y tuvo que abandonar su trabajo como profesora y su carrera artística. A estos duelos se sumó la pérdida de su marido. Sin embargo, su fuerza inconmensurable y su actitud valiente y luchadora han desembocado en la publicación de un libro de poesía que es todo un ejemplo de cómo transformar el dolor y la soledad en palabras exquisitas y desgarradoras. Todo vale en un poema … si el poema es poesía (2013) cuenta ya con una segunda edición (2015).

Tussah Heera (Kuala Lumpur, 1995) is a concert pianist, composer, and blogger. Her musical journey began in London, improvising on a single-octave digital keyboard at age 2. A winner of numerous competition and scholarships, she has been commended in concert reviews for her “dazzling virtuosity”, “consummate artistry” and “evident poise and natural ease with the piano”. Her solo debut in Nassau, Bahamas in 2014 was described as a “veritable tour-de-force”. In the spring of 2017, she graduated from the Glenn Gould School of Music in Toronto, with a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. On her blog, Tussah and the Wolf, Tussah rambles about her musical and philosophical observations. A self-proclaimed “radical freedomist”, she can often be found mocking ideologues and pretentiously quoting Nietzsche. In whatever is left of her spare time, Tussah enjoys listening to Rihanna, Radiohead, and the Beatles.

Manuel Fraijó Nieto (Guadalcázar, Córdoba, 1942) realizó sus estudios de Filosofía y Teología en las Universidades de Innsbruck (Austria), Münster y Tubinga (Alemania). Es doctor en ambas disciplinas. Durante sus estudios en Alemania fue alumno de K. Rahner, H. Küng, W. Kasper, J. Moltmann, J.B. Metz y W. Pannenberg. Colaboró en el volumen de homenaje a H. Küng, titulado Hans Küng. Neue Horizonte des Glaubens und Denkens (Ed. Piper, Munich, 1993) con un estudio cuyo título es “Exégesis y dogma: una reconciliación necesaria”. El volumen está dedicado a H. Küng en su 65 cumpleaños. Fue profesor de teología fundamental en la Universidad Pontificia de Comillas y en la Facultad de Teología de Granada. Como profesor invitado impartió cursos de filosofía y teología en la Universidad Católica de Santiago de Chile. En la actualidad es catedrático de Filosofía de la religión e Historia de las religiones en la Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia. Ha sido Director del Departamento de Filosofía y Filosofía Moral y Política de la UNED y, desde 2003 a 2011, Decano de dicha Facultad. Es miembro de la Sociedad Española de Ciencias de las Religiones. Su reflexión gira en torno al estudio del hecho religioso en general, con especial atención al hecho religioso cristiano y a la figura de Jesús de Nazaret. Ha estudiado también la relación entre fe y razón tal como se articula a partir de la Modernidad en el pensamiento católico y protestante. El rincón de Jordi

Jordi Claramonte Arrufat (Vila-real, 1969) es doctor en Filosofía por la UNED, donde imparte Teorías Estéticas Contemporáneas. Ha sido profesor invitado en el Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), la Universidad de Yale y el Arts Institute de Chicago. Ha traducido textos de John Dewey, Luigi Pareyson, Michel de Certeau y Stewart Home, entre otros, y escrito artículos y libros que, como La República de los fines (2010), tratan de construir una noción de autonomía relevante tanto para las prácticas artísticas como para las políticas más comprometidas. Ha participado, con diversas contribuciones, en algunos de los movimientos artísticos y políticos más característicos del ámbito del arte de contexto.
